Color management

In Premiere, it is typically necessary to enable Display Color Management under Premiere Pro › Settings › Color. We also recommend changing Viewer Gamma to 2.2 (Web) under File › Project Settings › Color to mitigate viewer inaccuracies.

On Windows 11, enable Automatically manage color for apps under Settings › System › Display › Color Management.

In After Effects, set Working Color Space to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 under File › Project Settings › Color.

Add Scatter to an adjustment layer

In Premiere, we recommend adding an adjustment layer above your clips and applying Scatter to it from the Effects panel. Scatter can also be applied directly to a clip, but Premiere will render it at the clip’s native resolution instead of the timeline resolution which may reduce performance.

In After Effects, apply Scatter to an adjustment layer or directly to the layer that needs diffusion.

Scatter Source control set to Arri Log C

Set Source in Scatter to match the native log color space of your footage or the scene-referred working space you have transformed it into.

  • For graphics or clips that were not recorded in a log color space, set Source to (Inaccurate) Gamma 2.4. This may produce a useful approximation, but will be less accurate than with scene-referred footage.

Family and Strength: Select the family of profiled filters, then select the strength of the selected filter family.

Intensity: Amplify or reduce the effect of the active filter.

Focal Length: Reduce or enlarge the falloff to approximate other fields of view, expressed in millimeters of focal length on s35mm.

Highlight Color Recovery: Rebuild color information in blown-out highlight regions by considering the hue of neighboring pixels so diffusion can be calculated more naturally.

Highlight Adjustment: Amplify or reduce diffused highlights either for creative effect or to compensate for clipped highlights that should be brighter than what the sensor was able to record.

Edge: Select Vignette, Mirrored, or Repeated to determine how Scatter extrapolates beyond image bounds.
